When I started this hobby website, I never imagined how different things would be in the world and especially in the country in which I currently reside.  I took it for granted that the United States of America would practice democracy and adhere to its Constitution.  It was an imperfect country, and her sins are numerous.  But it seemed to at least be seeking to—as the aforementioned constitution states —"form a more perfect union". 

But in the first month of this year, the government of the United States has fully embraced fascism.  It is no longer hyperbole nor some dystopian warning found in fiction.  It now uses a paramilitary semi-secret police which it uses to seek out the enemies of the regime, and even execute them in the street.  The Supreme Court has given the Executive branch near immunity in carrying out functions that branch self-determines is necessary to govern.  It circumvents a weak Legislative branch, whose only actions have been to do whatever the authoritarians wish.  And even the laws of that branch are being blatantly and deliberately ignored and flaunted.  The cult-like chief executive, a liar, convicted felon, and sexual predator, claims that his own morality is the only check necessary on his actions. 

Furthermore, the handful of people in power and the billionaire oligarchs that are its allies have cast off the international rule of law that has kept the world from falling into another devastating world war.  There are perhaps a few hundred in power, employing a few thousand goons to hold several million of its people hostage, or holds them in thrall with lies, deception, and delusion.  It not only threatens its adversaries with military invasion, but also its allies now.  To those countries, I offer my sincerest regret.  The United States and its citizens betrayed you and we have forever damaged the trust you had in us.

Unfortunately, I have no crystal ball to foretell the future.  Perhaps those of us fighting to regain our democracy will succeed or fail, but no matter the outcome, the bridges have been burned, trust betrayed, and our nation pillaged.  If this website isn't blocked and censored, let the downfall of the United States serve as a warning for those democracies who remain.  It could happen anywhere.  Don't let down your guard.  People with vast, unfathomable wealth and power can wipe out a society in a blink of a ballot box, even if you boast a robust democracy. 

Those of use who remain will continue to fight for freedom, democracy, and human dignity.  We have not given up hope.  Some of us are already laying down our lives for it (remember Renee Good).  We will fight, non-violently, not only for ourselves, but for those that this regime threatens.  May the history books to be written remember us positively, hopefully as those who were brave enough to defend and restore democracy in this country, and who started to restore and rebuild all of the damage that this regime has done.
